This is a project of two students who are about to begin their new study of design, one at the Design Academy in Eindhoven and the other at Artez in Arnhem. A friend asked them to make a desk where he could work, and put his laptop/pc on. It had to be a low budget desk.
This project seeks to analyse our body as a memory container that contains both physical and emotional experiences. By using two ordinary objects, a scale and a height chart, that translate biological data into a readable language which allows us to recall a particular experience or moment easily. The scale and height charts might remain unnoticed in daily life but nevertheless, when encountered, they offer a significant ‘hint’. In this way, as long as people find interest in the objects, they will be touched and surprised.
“Thread Family” is a set of small hight adaptable furnishings featuring a thread and seat lathed from walnut wood on a welded steel base in many colours. The family consists of three members: Small Stool, Bistro Table & High Stool. Main feature is the lathed upper part, consisting of a 40 mm thread cut from american walnut, connected with the seat by a visible and well crafted wedge-joint in a cross shape. Its surface is finished with hardwood oil to enhance the natural looks and to produce a smooth motion of the thread while adjusting the seat hight. The steel base was welded from precision stainless steel tubes, inspired by high quality bicycle frames. All additional parts like feet and inner thread have been hand crafted from a non dyed technical polymer.
“Thread” emphasizes the natural qualities of wood and works well as a single piece and in a group.
Iphone sleeves or cases, nowadays there are thousands of them. Dutch brand Mujjo, best known for their touchscreen gloves from last winter, have a winner in hands. They now have multiple sleeves for your (Apple) devices. The minimalisticly designed sleeves are nicely detailed, with ‘the Originals’ engraved in leather. The Mujjo Iphone sleeve really delivers quality, minimalism and durability how we like it.
What is a brand without its recognizable colours? An iconic shape. Have a good look at the all white painted items by Andrew Miller. He removed all visual branding, reducing the object to its purest form. He purchased each object for less than $10, or it can be something that he owns, another person gives him, or something he finds.
The Deskbox is a practical small table/cabinet that is hung onto a wall and it is ideal for settings where there is little space available for furniture. It is an elegant small work place, which is excellent for working on a laptop for instance, and it can be retracted to form a closed box, half the size of the table top.
If the end of the world is indeed in 2012, we better be ready in a stylish way. Menosunocerouno thought of a minimalistic designed case as a minimum survival kit. Just In Case holds everything you need to survive for a few days.
What is the physical boundary of an electronic device? While function was detached from its form, the outline it needs to have or is supposed to have can be different. As flash drives can be made extremely small, the Empty Memory was given a hollow space, implying the invisible technology.
For better or worse, construction materials, methods, and dimensions are quite homogenized in the United States. From the 2×4 wall studs to the cheap light switches, it seems that when building a wall, location is really the only decision left to make. The utilitarian relationship between these standard materials, dimensions, and parts comes together to create a modern icon that is hidden in plain sight. By deriving its character directly from this set of rules, the American Standards Lamp’s is instantly familiar and intuitive to use (for people living among these standards).
A publication of the Black & White clock design preceded the appearance of the White & White clock. The Black & White clock aroused a huge interest in the public. Kibardin Design decided to postpone the batch production of the Black & White modification after detailed research of the production prototypes and to concentrate on the new model White & White. During the working process the ideal technical and constructive solutions were found. They comply with all the functional and esthetic requirements and make this model available for mainstream customers.
What is wood? How thin can wood be? What is wood made of? Leonards work questions elements. By elements, he means materials and systems. He tried, by following the easiest way, to let them express what they are and what they want to be. The bookmark lamp is a table lamp which uses a book as base. The lamp is made of wild cherry wood sheets and a LED stripe. Leonard wanted to let these two elements talk about their own expression: minimal weight and volume. The wood sheet becomes a lamp, the LED stripe becomes a wood sheet.
Little Printer prints your social media updates, news, puzzles, messages and more on a small piece of paper. This way, you will have your offline amusement throughout the day. Scrolling through social media offline is pretty unique these days. Ann app allows you to determine what rolls out of the printer. Berg teamed up with some great partners for this project. Nike, Foursquare, The Guardian and others are involved with this cute screenless printer. Berg design studio will launch Little Printer in 2012.
